We believe that outdoor recreation is a vital component for making great New Zealanders. Outdoor education is a great way to help our young to learn about the outdoors, environment, team building and outdoor pursuits.

YMCA Camp Raukawa is where it all happens.

There is a huge range of activities at YMCA Camp Raukawa. Young people will learn new skills, engage in new activities and have fun.  Being involved with the outdoors at Camp Raukawa is often a young person’s first steps to becoming an individual. Camping and the outdoors encourages a healthy approach to life. It is a prime opportunity for young people to learn to accept responsibility and to recognise their inner strengths. The YMCA believes in the value of the outdoors for all. Financial assistance and scholarships are available in certain circumstances.

Camping programmes:

Are available all year, offering personalised programmes for children 8-13 years, teenagers, people with disabilities and their siblings and also youth at risk. Raukawa is also utilised for family camping, school camps and corporate team building.

Leadership:

Volunteer leaders are offered an opportunity to develop a career pathway through involvement with outdoor instructors and other staff leaders by giving them hands-on experience working alongside professional staff.

Scholarships:

Many of the youth who come to Raukawa do so at a cost to the YMCA that is not covered by any funding, yet the YMCA sees it as an essential gift, by making those New Zealanders less fortunate able to experience the outdoors. If you or your business would like to sponsor a child or group, you will be directly contributing to helping make great New Zealanders.
